Red - Jennifer Anne Davis

Red is the amazing sequel to Jennifer Anne Davis’s “The Key.”  I was given a copy of the e-book by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.  When I was given Red, I was told that I would immediately want to read the third book in the trilogy.  That was no lie.  I finished Red late last night and sat up in my bed and was like, “I need MORE!!!!”  I can’t wait to start reading War today.  I told myself I had to write this review before I could begin War.

Red picks up exactly where The Key left off – Rema’s execution.  Without spoiling too much, just as Rema is set to die, a valiant rescue effort comes into play, leaving Rema alive, but wounded.  She wakes up in a strange area surrounded by rebels.  She has to learn to survive with the rebels while trying to figure out what everyone is hiding from her and why Darmik betrayed her.

Meanwhile, Darmik struggles with wondering if he was a complete butthead in the way he treated Rema.  He finally realizes that maybe he didn’t have the whole story and maybe he is not fighting for the correct side.

Red is a dramatic sequel to The Key.  It is full of growth for the characters and I think I fell more in love with Darmik, who by the way, in my mind looks exactly like Bash from the CW show “Reign.”  I’m not sure if that’s what he looks like through the author’s mind, but I’m sticking to that yummy mental image.  (If you don’t know who Bash is, Google Torrance Coombs…he’s beautiful.)

I loved how well-written this story is.  There are few mistakes and it is full of beautiful description and prose.  Every word kept me intrigued.  I highly recommend this series.  I cannot wait to leave you here and delve back into the royal world.  I have to know what happens to Rema and whether Darmik stays on the “good” side.
